WHO WE ARE

WHO

WE ARE

Tim is in demand as a drill designer, adjudicator, clinician and consultant. As an accomplished drill designer, Tim has written drills, been a caption head and program coordinator for many bands, winter guards and drum corps. In over 20 years of work he has designed for hundreds of groups. Each year he signs a select group of contracts for fall marching shows. Many of these are long time devoted clients and groups. His groups have appeared in numerous BOA regionals, state competitions, and local circuit championships.

Tim serves as an adjudicator for DCI, WGI, various Winter Guard Circuits, and many state marching band associations. He has been judging bands and winter guards for over 20 years, and has performed judging clinics for various judging associations.

Tim was a marching member of the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps organization for 8 years, and during this tenure he won the DCI Solo and Ensemble competition in 1993. Since marching, he has instructed and/or designed for many drum corps including Phantom Regiment, Phantom Legion, Blue Knights, Colts, Tar Heel Sun, and the Bluecoats.

He studied Music Performance on Euphonium at Illinois State University, learning from the infamous, Ed Livingston. While attending Illinois State Tim served as the principal Euphonium in the Wind Symphony. Tim is currently furthering his music education at the University of Iowa. Today he continues to teach private lessons to many brass students and perform locally.

WORK
GOAL

WHAT OUR

CLIENTS SAY

"Tim does a fantastic job as a drill writer/designer.  My color guard was staged very effectively which sent our GE scores through the roof! Judges raved at each festival about the design and effectiveness of our drill.  I highly recommend him as a drill designer."

"Tim has written drill and helped with our visual concept for the past 5 seasons. His writing is always very in tune with what is going on musically in the ensemble and is written in such a way that it challenges the students to succeed without going above what they are capable of doing.  All aspects of the band are well integrated with focus always being portrayed where appropriate. Drill charts and coordinates are very easy to understand and being able to see your drill on YouTube has been a great help for our students. I highly recommend Tim for anyone looking to hire a designer for his or her fall program."

"Gray Visual Design is indeed a dynamic learning experience for any marching band.  I have had the pleasure of working with Gray Visual Design on many occasions with several different bands.  No matter the ability level or philosophy, Gray Visual Design brought out the best in every ensemble through their use of creative, musical drill; ease of teachability; and a tremendously knowledgeable, caring, and professional staff.  I highly reccomend Gray Visual Design to any director wishing to take their band to the next level! "Tim is a wonderful clinician and judge.  He did a fantastic job at our Pride of the Ozarks Marching Invitational. The feedback I got from directors about his clinics and recordings were overwhelmingly positive. He brings a refreshingly positive educational voice to the world of adjudication."
